Catching Yabbies and Fishing

Catching Yabbies and Fishing.

Have you ever heard of a Yabbi pump? Well if not it is like an open ended bike pump that you insert into the wet sand and suck it up into the tube. Its about 3 feet long and is supposed to suck up the little critters that live in the sand which fish love to eat. The little critters or mini-shrimp are called yabbies. Once you have sucked up the sand (critters et al.) into the tube you release your catch onto the beach and scramble to pick up anything that move and get it into the bucket. The little yabbies have sharp claws so you have to have a swift hand and grab them from behind. Once you have caught enough of them you are ready to go fishing. Sometimes you will get lucky and get a few spider crabs in the mix which are even better bait.
