Scuba certification dives #3 and #4
Today, we started the day with the usual run at 6;45, then breakfast and school until 10:45 when we were supposed to meet our Dive master and instructor ( Kevin and Josh) in front of the condo and follow them out to the shores south of Diamondhead. We survived the previous day famously albeit our ears are all plugged and sore. As you descend the pressure in your ears needs to be equalized and for some of us it is easier said than done. Yesterday, we descended 25-30 feet down but today we will be down between 33-45 feet for two separate dives. We will be exploring the Large green turtle habitats and environmental “cleaning stations” where the turtles go to get the parasites, barnacles and microorganisms naturally cleaned off their respective shells and bodies by schools of reef fish which perform the function.
Hooray! We are all PADI Scuba certified. Even Elizabeth who had the most amount of difficulty with her ears and the size of equipment performed well and now has her license. We invited the instructors out for a night on the town on Thursday.
Lizzie says” swimming with the Turtles was perhaps the best thing that ever happened to her in whole life”. As she was descending down to the 30 foot mark on the tie line, one of the sea turtles swam up from the bottom to get acquainted with her. The turtle seemed fascinated with her small size and would not leave her side. It stayed with her until she made it to the seabed and then lost interest and swam off but it was a great marine experience that will shape her love for Scuba for the rest of her life.
