On the road again!

September 23, 2009 On the road again. Willie Nelson would be so proud
We are packing up Yorkey’s Knob Drift Away village and trying to figure out how we are going to get everything back into the van that we came with plus the large items we purchased such as printers and souvenirs and Nicholas’s new guitar.. We also have 5 boxes of Groceries left over that we will use at the next place. The challenge is to decide which child to leave behind as unless we develop a shrinking machine or we reconfigure we are not fitting. The plan was that the kids would use this travel time as a great opportunity to get caught up on their work. Problem is that if I can squeeze them in there will be no room for them to manoeuvre a pencil. I anticipate several bours of car sickness.

Its about 11:00 and we are on the road. Despite her wishes Lizzie did not get to sit on the roof. We are now heading south final destination is Runaway Bay where we catch a water taxi to a resort Island of Stradbroke Island a mere 1700 kilometres away.

We decided to make this road trip a little more pleasant and do a few more stops and hikes along the way. One of the famous hikes only an hour and a half outside of Cairns is a pyramid looking mountain known as WALSH’s PYRAMID. This was a must stop and the kids were excited to mountain climb. Stan did not share the same sentiments and decided to stand guard at the van while we ventured up the mountain. We were going to see how far we could climb in 2 hours. We made it pretty close to the top but it was getting steep and traitorous. The temperature was 34C and Lizzie thought she was going to melt.

Once we get down from the hike we proceeded south to Townsville where we bunked in at a nice spot called the Merkure motel which provided us with 2 small concrete rooms which we stuffed into. However the place had a kidney shaped pool surrounded by palm trees that had wild Lemurs (monkey s) living in them and they included a breakfast buffet with the price of the room.
